"New"

At Bungendore Wood Works Gallery, NSW  April 24th – May 26th 2010

Following her “Everything... and the kitchen sink” exhibition, Alison continues to explore the ‘non-grand’ with these domestic-themed paintings with a twist.

There are still kitchen sinks here, but often reduced down to just a plug hole to indicate the setting for her objects.  And these range from sardines, prawns and pomegranates to plastic bags, coffee pots, graters and even plastic ponies.

Once again the subject matter is quite ordinary – there’s a feeling of everyday objects just lying around.  But there’s also a creeping sense of subtext as sharp or abrasive objects lurk in close proximity to soft, vulnerable items, whilst plastic bags suffocate already-dead fish. Alison’s paintings allow the viewer to fill in their own story line...
